Date Night Creation

Hi! Katie here. I would say I’m Tony’s unseen wife, however, he often posts photos of us together so I’d actually have to describe myself as his unfilmed wife. I absolutely hate being video recorded. I didn’t even hire a videographer for our wedding. It is super, impossibly rare to have video footage of me. In essence, I am Tony’s complete opposite. I’m writing here to detail the creation of our monthly date night (sometimes date day).

It actually started 12 years into our relationship, lol. We of course have had dates but they tended to be the generic dinner and/or movie. Also, our dates had dwindled to maybe once or twice a year after having our daughter, Maddie. So we were in a dry spell. So first step in fixing our dateless relationship, commit to a timetable. One scheduled date month.

Safe House Chicago

This became our first date for our new once-a-month date routine. When we entered the restaurant our challenge was to turn back to back, walk ten paces, and pretend dual. After being admitted into the restaurant you see that everyone inside could view our challenge on tv screens inside. As mentioned I hate being filmed. I did feel slight mortification at this but I was able to laugh it off (mostly because no one seemed to be paying attention, phew). Tony loves puzzles so he had a blast looking for clues and trying to figure out the password. I’m horrible at the puzzles so I mostly followed Tony around as he looked. It was a good start to our first date.

Over the next few months, we continued with the promised once-a-month dates. We went to a hibachi grill (February), Vacation Puerto Rico (March), Arcade (April), May (mini-golf), and a local brewery (June). After our June date, I had another idea. I wanted all our dates to be something different. Basically no basic dinner and/or movie dates. After recapping our last few dates I had realized in our 12 years together we had never gone mini-golfing together before. Something so classic to dating. I wanted to make the most of these dates. What followed was hours of Pinteresting and researching date ideas.

I keep a list of date ideas in my phone’s notes. I have what the idea is and then links to places I researched in our area. I often update the list and research ideas to keep the list full of ideas. Also, I wanted to remember the order and months of our completed dates so I had to create another note to record a running list of the dates.

Well, that is my summation of how our date nights/days were created. First creating a timetable. Secondly no basic dinner/movie dates. I try my hardest to follow these rules but not going to lie Covid threw a wrench at us. I’ll cover more of that later.
