How to Make the Best Chicken Fried Chicken
Ingredients
Chicken:
- 4 Thin Chicken Breasts
- 2 Cups Flour
- 2 tsp. Baking Powder
- 1 tsp. Baking Soda
- 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
- 1-1/2 Cup Buttermilk
- 1 Egg
- 1 Tbsp. Hot Sauce Optional
- Salt
- Pepper
Gravy:
- 4 Tbsp. Butter
- 1/3 Cup Flour
- 2 Cups Milk
- Salt
- Pepper
Instructions
- Heat oil in your fryer or dutch oven to 325˚F.
- In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. In a second bowl combine the buttermilk, egg and hot sauce. Place the chicken in the buttermilk mixture and make sure it is completely covered.
- One breast at a time dredge them through the flour mixture and add into your heated oil and fry for about 5 to 7 minutes until the chicken is cooked all the way through and is a nice golden brown.
- While the chicken is cooking we can start on the gravy. In a sauce pan add the butter and allow it to melt down over a medium heat. Whisk in the flour and allow to cook for about 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the milk until it is completely combined. Bring it to a boil, turn down the heat and allow it to simmer to thicken up. Remove from the heat and salt and pepper to taste.
- Pour gravy over the chicken and serve.
