My Journey to Completing Captain America Vol. 1
As a lifelong comic book enthusiast, I’ve always found joy not just in collecting, but in the act of reading and immersing myself in the stories. My journey has led me to focus on Captain America Vol. 1, a series I’ve been passionate about for years. The thrill of piecing together this iconic run is rooted in my desire to experience the complete narrative rather than simply owning high-value collectibles.
Over the years, I’ve amassed a substantial portion of the series, but finding the remaining issues has become increasingly challenging. With the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain America comics have skyrocketed in price, making many key issues nearly unattainable. Despite this, my goal has always been to read every installment of this legendary run, rather than just display them.
One notable achievement in my collection is Captain America #117, featuring the first appearance of Falcon. Securing this issue was a significant milestone, given its rarity and high price. But my ultimate quest has been for Captain America #100—the actual start of the ongoing Captain America series.
For the past year, I’ve been on a relentless hunt for this elusive issue, often referred to as my “white whale.” The excitement of finally adding it to my collection as a birthday present was indescribable. This acquisition wasn’t just about completing my set; it was a testament to my commitment to experiencing the complete story of Captain America, rather than just collecting valuable pieces.
