Sometimes it is really easy for me to figure out a recipe in my 50 states of burgers. Mississippi was exactly one of those states. The Mississippi Slug Burger was the first and really only thing that came up while doing my search of what to make. I get asked, why is it called a slug burger!? Well in my searching the name comes from the original cost of this style of burger. This depression area burger was created out of a need to stretch out the use of beef so they could get more burger per pound. This type of burger at the time cost $.05, yup five cents or a single slug the nickel’s nick name at the time… and thus the Slug burger was born.
Now with several recipes of Slug Burger out there I took a mix and match approach to make a version I enjoyed most. So I present to you Tony Rican’s version of the Mississippi Slug Burger and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did!
Do you live in Mississippi and have a better slug burger recipe? Hit me up let me know, I am 100% open to improving my recipes to better fit!
